چکیده

Newton & Abraham (1950) found that crude bacitracin could be resolved into a series of similar polypeptides by counter-current distribution between solvents. Better resolution and larger amounts ofthe products have now been obtained by using a greater number of transfers and starting with more concentrated solutions than were used in the earlier experiments. It has been possible, by a single distribution, to prepare the various bacitracins in quantities sufficient for some of their chemical and biological properties to be compared. Hausmann, Ahrens & Harfenist (1951) and containing 101 tubes. The solvent system consisted of n-butanol (4 vol.), amyl alcohol (1 vol.), in equilibrium with 0-05M-potassium phosphate buffer (5 vol.), at pH 7-0 (Newton & Abraham, 1950). Analysis of the distribution curve (see Experimental) shows that the crude bacitracin was resolved, or partly resolved, into at least ten different components. Table 1 shows the proportions in which nine of these components were present, their partition coefficients (K) in the solvent system used, and

Synergistic Effects of Gold Nanoparticles Mixed with Gentamicin, Erythromycin, Clindamycin, Bacitracin, and Polymyxin B against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Enterococcus faecium and Enterococcus fae

Background and Objective: The majority of bacterial infections are now treatable using different classes of antibiotics. However, the world has faced a challenge called antimicrobial resistance that will diminish most antibiotics' beneficial impacts. A valuable strategy to prevent this adverse phenomenon is to increase the antibacterial effects of antibiotics using various materials as antibiot...

Formation of Bacitracin by Washed Cell Suspensions of Bacillus Licheniformis.

Although the microbial formation of a variety of polypeptides possessing antibiotic activities has been known for some time, the biosynthesis of these compounds has as yet received little attention. Not only is the mechatnism of formation of these biologically active compounds of interest in itself, but the biosyntheses of these polypeptides are potential systems for investigating the general p...

Bacitracin, Glycopeptide Antibiotics, and the Polymyxins

Bacitracin and the polymyxins are polypeptide antibiotics. They are relatively toxic drugs and have had only limited use in chemotherapy until recently. Vancomycin, a glycopeptide, although not without side effects, is widely used.Teicoplanin is a new glycopeptide antibiotic that may be beneficial against certain infections caused by gram-positive organisms. The mechanisms of action of this gro...

RAPID IDENTIFICATION OF GROUP A STREPTOCOCCI BY PYRROLIDONYL-β-APHTHYLAMIDE HYDROLYSIS

In a clinical trial a new pyrrolidonyl-β-naphthylamide (PYR) hydrolysis test was compared with the bacitracin disk susceptibility test for accuracy in the presumptive identification of group A streptococci (GAS). Among 128 isolates of beta-hemolytic streptococci 93 group A isolates were found. The sensitivity of the PYR and bacitracin tests were similar (98.9%), but the bacitracin test had ...
